Cyprus Cooperative Bank (formerly Co-operative Central Bank) is a central body of cooperative credit and savings societies (cooperative credit institutions) operating in Cyprus. Cyprus Cooperative Bank Ltd provides retail banking, corporate banking and insurance products to natural persons and legal entities residing in Cyprus. The cooperative credit institutions are, however, autonomous legal entities and to have their own administrative and management bodies. In September 2018, Hellenic Bank completed the acquisition of certain assets and liabilities of Cyprus Cooperative Bank. In October 2018, the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), the supervisory arm of European Central Bank, has forced Cyprus Cooperative Bank to wind down its operations.
Cyprus Cooperative Bank Ltd participates in the deposit guarantee scheme of Cyprus. This deposit guarantee scheme applies to all accounts made by natural persons (domestic and foreign), legal entites (domestic and foreign) and covers up to up to 100,000 EUR per bank per depositor. Cyprus Cooperative Bank Ltd is a member of Deposit Guarantee Fund for Banks and makes its contributions into it.
