Friesland bank was established in 1913 as Coöperatieve Zuivelbank and till 1963 was mainly providing services to Frisian companies in the agricultural sector and to local authorithies, and then expanded its activities into retail and business banking. In 2014 Friesland Bank was acquired by Rabobank.

The bank participates in the Deposit Guarantee Fund (DGF), making regular contributions into it.
